St. George's Oral History Project
Our Interviews are almost complete! This past
Friday we were very fortunate to have The Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar
Budde, Bishop of Washington, come to St. George's for an
interview as well as longtime and faithful parishioners Barbara
Collins and Mary Ann Wilmer.
Your Oral History Project Team has been invited to
share our experience with the next cohort of parishes who are
included in this year's Congregational Leadership Initiative with
the Episcopal Church Foundation. We will do that on October 11,
2021 in Baltimore at the kick off week. We hope our journey with
this project resonates for others.
Many thank to all who are capturing St. George's
history in the oral tradition!

‘My
Name Is Pauli Murray’
Film
Screening and Panel Discussion
Pauli Murray is of the most
influential figures in American 20th century history. Ordained at
the National Cathedral in 1977, Pauli Murray finished their
professional life as an Episcopal priest.
“My Name Is Pauli Murray,” a documentary film, premiered online in January
at the Sundance Film Festival and is now playing in select
theaters. Washington National Cathedral
will screen the documentary for an in-person audience on Sept.
30. It will stream on Amazon Prime beginning Oct. 1.
It will also be shown online the same day through the Church of
the Heavenly Rest in New York, followed by a discussion with West
and Presiding Bishop Michael Curry. The film, which incorporates
excerpts from Murray’s diaries and memoirs, shows how she laid
the groundwork for future achievements for racial and gender
equality.

Kwanzaa Kitchen: Janis has
been able to come up with a unique way in which we will continue
to feed the hungry in this important ministry. It involves fewer
than 6 people and we will pack the food to go and place it
outside on tables for people to take their breakfast with them.
We will continue this way until we are able to gather groups
together again.
