Traffic Advisory for Weekend Events

Howard University Homecoming Parade
On Saturday, October 18, 2014, the 2014 Howard University Homecoming Parade will take place in the District of Columbia.  In conjunction with this event, there will be several street closures that motorists should take into consideration:
The staging area time will be 7:00 am in front of Johnson Administration Building (2400 6th Street NW) on the campus of Howard University. The parade start time will be 10:00 am and will conclude approximately at 12:30 pm at which time the roadways will re-open to traffic.
Parade Route

  • North on 6th Street to Fairmont Street
  • West on Fairmont Street to Georgia Ave NW
  • South on Georgia Ave to Florida Ave NW
  • East on Florida Ave to 5th Street NW
  • North on 5th Street to T Street NW 
  • East on T Street to 3rd Street NW
  • North on 3rd Street NW to Elm Street NW
  • East on Elm Street NW to 2nd Street NW
  • North on 2nd Street NW to Bryant Street
  • West on Bryant Street to 4th Street NW
  • North on 4th Street to the Valley where they will disband
All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.
Motorists could encounter possible delays if operating in the vicinity of these events and may wish to consider alternative routes.  The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation also wishes to remind motorists in the vicinity of this event to proceed with caution as increased pedestrian traffic can be anticipated.

  1. Hi Scott -

    This MPD alert for the Parade does not match the parade route shared by Howard University. I have sent an email to Howard University and MPD, asking them to clarify the route. Howard has replied that they will "work with MPD to revise the message". Hopefully, the parade will not be travelling on Second Street.

    Looks like great weather for the parade. Third and T is a great spot for Bloomingdale neighbors to watch the parade, since the parade turns the corner by the market and there is a lot of room for viewers!
