Dear Friends of DC Parks,

On behalf of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and DC Office of Planning, please help us spread the word about the parks and rec master plan to your friends and neighbors!

You might have heard that the District is already in the process of renovating 32 playgrounds across the city to have an immediate impact on neighborhood quality of life.  Now we are using this effort as a stepping stone to launch Play DC! – The District of Columbia’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan Initiative.  This exciting project will establish a road map for the District’s parks and recreation system over the next ten years.

We have just kicked off the evaluation of the city’s network of parks and recreation resources, and want all citizens to get involved!  We have created 3 major ways for the public to provide input:

1.       MindMixer Online Engagement Forum

Visit our Virtual Town Hall at www.letsplaydc.com!  (Please see attached document for more information).

2.       Citizen Survey

Take our Citizen Survey coming soon to www.playdc.org!  (Surveys will also be issued randomly via mail and telephone).

3.       Public Workshops

Attend any of the following events that are most convenient for you!

 ·         One City Summer Kickoff – Saturday, June 15^th @ RFK Stadium, Lot 7, 10 am–5pm.  We’ll be there with info about the Master Plan and free DPR swag – stop by and enjoy the start of summer!

·         Public Workshop #1: Monday June 17^th @ Deanwood Recreation Center, 7-9 pm.  Deanwood Recreation Center is located at 1350 49^th Street, NE, next to Deanwood Metro Station.

·         Public Workshop #2: Tuesday, June 18th @ One Judiciary Square, Old Council Chambers, 12-2 pm.  One Judiciary Square is located at 441 4th Street, NW, next to the Judiciary Square Metro Station.

·         Public Workshop #3: Thursday, June 20th @ Raymond Recreation Center, 7-9 pm.  Raymond Recreation Center is located at 3725 10th Street, NW, near the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro Station.

Bloomingdale Civic Association announces a Scholarship opportunity for two awards

See this message from the Bloomingdale Civic Association Scholarship Committee: 

The Bloomingdale Civic Association is delighted to announce the attached Scholarship opportunity for two awards ($1,250 each) for qualified students enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical program for the Fall 2013 semester.

                                                                                                       

Each scholarship will be awarded based on meeting all guidelines for eligibility, accuracy of application, and quality of essay. Scholarship award will be disbursed by October 1, 2013, pending maintained enrollment.

                                                             

Application deadline: July 1, 2013

Winners to be announced at July 15,2013 BCA Meeting

     

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS MUST:§ Currently reside within the District-recognized boundaries of Bloomingdale;

Arcadia's Mobile Market returning this afternoon to 3rd and Elm Street NW from 4pm - 7 pm

Arcadia's Mobile Market to return this Wednesday evening after needed repair 

The Mobile Market will be open for business again this Wednesday evening from 4-7pm at the corner of Elm and 3rd Streets NW. The bus' power steering system broke minutes before market was to begin last week, but is thankfully back on the road again. 

Fresh this week:

Cooking greens (kale, collards)

Salad greens (red and green lettuce, arugula, spinach, spicy salad mix)

Root veggies (radishes, horseradish,

turnips)

Fruits (apples, and hopefully strawberries!)

Kitchen essentials (herbs, leeks)

And others! (mushrooms, asparagus)

As always, we'll have other farm-fresh and locally produced items, such as:

Meats

Yogurt

Cheese 

Granola

Lyon Bread

And starting next week, we'll begin having Moo Thru bottled milk on the bus again.

DDOT Sharing Ideas for the Future of Transportation

Public Invited to Provide Input on how to Meet Future Transportation Needs

(Washington, D.C.) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is hosting the second round of public workshops in June to discuss moveDC, DDOT's initiative to develop a strategic, multimodal long range transportation plan for the District. Everyone who drives, walks, bikes, rides a bus or takes a train in the District should plan to attend to help create a new transportation vision for current and future generations.

The June workshops build on what was learned from the workshops held in March 2013. They will offer people an opportunity to view the performance of today’s transportation system, better understand anticipated growth and share specific ideas on how to meet the District’s future transportation needs.

At the workshops, DDOT will present several potential approaches to meeting the District’s future transportation needs. Participants will be asked to identify the positive and negative elements of each scenario, suggest projects that should be included in each, help identify priorities, and share thoughts on trade-offs they’d be willing to support.

“Now is the time to visualize D.C.’s transportation future and to make it a reality. It is important that the many diverse views of our city are represented in this plan and process,” said DDOT Director Terry Bellamy.

The public is invited to participate in any or all of the workshops. With the exception of the Union Station meeting, each location will follow the same agenda and host the same activities. The Union Station meeting will offer content and input opportunities similar to the evening and afternoon meetings; however, it will be structured in a self-guided format.

Hello Friends and Neighbors!  It is once again time to enjoy the warmth and wonderful plants, flowers, and colors of our nation’s capital.  BACA invites you to beautify your yard and be a part of Flower Power, our annual neighborhood garden walk and reception.  During the WALK, you will view some of the best gardens in our area, as well as the unique styles and architecture of our homes. We invite you VOTE on your favorite front yards, back yards, and tree boxes for each street.  Awards will be provided to the winners.  After the walk, there will be a garden RECEPTION to catch up with old friends and neighbors and meet new ones.
