Let’s face it, the lawn is the most important feature of our park. Every year, the Crispus Attucks Development Corporation (CADC) nonprofit board spends over $8,000 for lawn care and landscaping to keep it beautiful for all.
                       
The park is now more popular than ever before, and the increased wear and tear has taken its toll. There is a plan to correct the damage to the grass, but we need to raise $17,000 to cover the work. Please consider donating a little extra this year to fund the campaign for the soil reconditioning and resodding of the lawn.

The CADC is an ENTIRELY VOLUNTEER non-profit organization. All maintenance and upkeep of Crispus Attucks Park is paid for entirely by the CADC Board and generous friends of the park like you.

Good Evening,



Earlier this afternoon members of the Fifth District responded to a call for an armed robbery in the 300 Blk of R St NW. Upon arriving on scene officers learned that suspects had robbed complainants in the block and that one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. Officers learned through the on scene investigation that the suspects ran into a residence on 3rd St NW. Officers responded and secured the area. A search warrant was later executed at the location where the suspects were observed fleeing inside of. A total of six arrests were made. A handgun was recovered during a search of the location as well as numerous stolen items and suspected stolen items. The officers who responded took six violent offenders of the streets of DC and should  be commended for their excellent work.

DCRA Launches Blitz on
Illegal Construction


Washington, DC – This summer, the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) began its “Illegal Construction Blitz” in Ward 1. The initiative, which will continue through the fall, deploys inspection teams who identify and take action on illegal construction projects and housing code violations.

More than 20 stop work orders (SWO) were issued for illegal construction taking place in Columbia Heights, Shaw and Parkview.  The SWOs also resulted in notice of infractions (NOI) and potential fines to the property owners.  

“Our teams did a great job covering a lot of ground in Ward 1 and were a visible presence in neighborhoods where a lot of construction is taking place,” said DCRA Director Melinda Bolling. “This very proactive tactic will help us ensure that the work being done is legal, safe and within the scope of a permit.”

The “blitz” consisted of inspection teams that covered a pre-determined route within Ward 1.  Each team was comprised of an illegal construction inspector who served as the lead and a staff member who assisted with navigating the route and assessing potential violations.  The routes were developed in part by analyzing historical data for postcard permits issued and SWOs posted since October 2016.

In addition to illegal construction cited by DCRA inspectors, teams also identified other egregious property maintenance violations that they came across. 

Any construction in the District of Columbia done without required building permits is illegal and presents a public danger that can hurt people and damage property.  Please report illegal construction activity in your community by calling 311, texting DC311, visiting 311.dc.gov, or tweeting @311DCgov.
