Bloomingdale Farmers Market Sunday: Father's Day Special !

Hi BFM fans:
 
We are open rain or shine, clouds and sun today!
 
 Hey, let's not limit the celebration on Sunday to fathers -- how about ALL the men in our lives:  fathers, brothers, sons, nephews,  uncles, husbands, boyfriends, partners and friends.  So, what are their favorite foods?  Here are some of our ideas:
             
 **If your man is carnivorous, start with our old friend fave: Luke's breakfast trinity: sausage, eggs and bacon.
**Served with Asparagus hollandaise?  This may be the last week for it.
**Truck Patch's Grill: St. Louis ribs or grilled chicken legs. 
**Served with New Potatoes covered with Romesco sauce
**or Green Rice with  fresh peas, mint, arugula and your own smoked paprika
**Garner's Strawberry Daiquiri mix would make a nice sundowner.
**Number 1 Son's New York Deli style Pickles or her kimchi would go with vegetarian or meat or that green rice.  
***The Dilly beans make a fine swizzle to a Bloody Mary and the brine from the pickles kick up a Dirty Martini.
***Pies-- Whisked has the Summer pie of the season --Strawberry rhubarb and Italian Zucchini quiche --both would fancy up a brunch.
***Macaroons topped with creme de Cerise, Cherry Cream.  Damien whipped up a special Father’s Day dessert.

 What’s at market:
              
 REID: Sweet- as- sugar Sugar Snap Peas, Strawberries and the last herb and plant market of the season.  Buy a little Basil insurance – an extra plant or two is always useful.
 GARNER Squash blossoms, first raspberries, yellow wax, green and flat Italian beans, cucumbers  (be sure to peel them), raspberries, high tunnel tomatoes.  Chard, kales, kohlrabi, arugula, broccoli, cabbages, purple and white turnips, strawberry jelly and daiquiri mix, candy onions, green onions, squash and baby spuds.  Early Girl high tunnel tomatoes.
 TIP: listen up, everyone, Kohlrabi makes the BEST cole slaw in the world.   Just peel it and grate it, salt it, let the juices flow and add olive oil  (or mayo if you must).  It is weird looking but it makes a killer slaw.
 TIP: Greek Tzatziki is cucumber gone to heaven in my opinion.  Peel and Dice cukes and salt them.  Then mash some garlic with salt and add to yogurt.  Mix the cukes and the garlicky yogurt and let the flavors meld.  Add chopped mint (or dill).  Serve as a side dish with grilled foods or on its own as a first course.  If you blend it with some walnuts, you have a very good cold cucumber soup.
 
MOUNTAIN VIEW CERTIFIED ORGANIC: Sugar Snap Peas, English Peas, pretty heads of lettuce, spring onions, kales, chard, summer squash, radishes, Carrots, Giant Bok Choi. Turnips.
NUMBER ONE SONS: Kosher, Dills, half Sours are the stuff of an ex New Yorker's fantasy and your guy will love them and the kimchis and the various krauts.  One farmer planted FOUR THOUSAND cucumber plants for them so you know they are serious about their pickles!
 TIP: Use the leftover brine from the Kicky Pickles to brine Truck Patch pork chops overnight and then grill them.  I had a similar dish at Bangkok Golden tonight – brined pork, later fried.  Great combination.
 TRUCK PATCH MEATS Pastured pork in all it glory: smoked and fresh chops, steaks, shoulders (dry rub salt, pepper, cumin, herbs on it 12 hours before you cook it ) and spare ribs(both to slow cook or smoke), Sausages to grill (Bratwurst, sage, country, apple).  Eggs, Chickens to grill whole or in parts. Turkey.
 TRUCK PATCH: Beautiful tiny squash with their flowers, asparagus, arugula, mesclun, Chards, Kales, beets with their greens, radishes, Sugar Snap Peas, English Peas, Roast or grill the white and red and yellow spring onions.  (Mild enough to eat raw with a shake of salt, as Bryan does.  Chop the greens into crab cakes or turn them into pesto!)
 WHISKED: Strawberry Rhubarb pie is a classic.  The Italian Zucchini Quiche is the first real summer quiche - full of local zucchini, sun dried tomatoes and fresh basil.  
 PANORAMA: Olive oil and hamburger buns!  Croissants, sticky buns, rye, pumpernickel, multi-grain, rustique, and all those other good breads.  They freeze VERY well so you can have good bread all week long!  Try Damien's Breton specialties on the Pastry table: Meringues, Koign-Aman, macaroons, Pretzels. The brioche makes terrific French toast -- as does the Challah.
KESWICK CREAMERY: 15 different aged raw milk cheeses including Dragon’s Breath, everyone’s favorite for cheeseburgers.  Fabulous yogurt made milk and probiotics.  Fetas to go along with the Early Girl Tomatoes, cucumbers and spring onions and peppers and lettuces.
PAINTED HAND: Naturally browsed goat, rose veal, eggs, dog biscuits.
NORTH MT PASTURES: Bacons, Cured Meats, Sausages
