Subject: Man being harrassed today, possibly assaulted

To the Bloomingdale/Le Droit Park Community

Today, at approximately 8:45 pm, I was driving on Bryant St. NW, headed to 4th Street NW.
As I approached 4th Street, I noticed a group of kids (15 – 20), likely in middle to high school, harassing a man that seemed to be hurt.  The man apparently had blood on his arms.  I notice a couple of the kids attempting to sneak up behind him to hit him.  I stopped the car and asked the kids what they were doing and leave him alone.  A kid replied “Nigger get back in your car.”  I asked again, what did you say to me, as the man was walking towards my direction to get out of the situation, he replied again “Nigger get back in your car.”  I saw a MPD Patrol Car at the next corner, so I drove through the kids and retrieved the Officers.  I informed them what was happening.  They turned on their lights indicated that they will handle it.

All of the kids where Black.  The man who was being harassed looked White, but he could be of foreign dissent.  The ring leader was wearing skinny blue jeans and a red polo shirt, with a short haircut.  HE couldn’t have weighed more than 130lbs.  Most of the other kids where wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

I hope the individual that was involved in this situation is Ok.  It’s shameful that we cannot simply walk through our streets without being harassed.  The gentleman actually looked like he was on a run/jog.

If this email finds its way to the individual involved and you need anything from me, please feel free to email me at deccadc@gmail.com.

Here is an addiitonal comment from this person:

It occurred at Bryant ant 4th St.  I was about to turn left onto 4th street and then on to W.

  1. These kids are local...they've been implicated in crimes in this area quite a few times... its a big group of little thugs. And I think that it's time the neighborhood do something about it. If we wait for the police, then it's not certain that they will be able to resolve it. I would find the guy involved and ask him to press charges. Then i would locate other people that have also been victim of this gang and get them to testify. Then i think that the neighbors who have witnessed this should turn out en masse to make sure they lock a few of these ring leaders up for a while. They've been warned before. I think that we should let these kids know in no uncertain terms that people in the community are documenting their activity and that when they do get caught, the neighborhood will turn out in court to make sure they go to juvie or prison for a long time and stay there.

  3. Several of the young women who were involved in the group assaults earlier this year live on the 300 or 400 block of W street I believe.... i think that the police warned their parents already.

Wonder if this is associated with the Show out crew ...certainly has similarities.

  5. Many kudos to the individual who took action and risked his/her own safety to help a fellow citizen and many thanks for alerting the neighborhood to the incident.

  6. If the these are in fact teens less than 18, where are their parents? How about the community holds the parents accountable for their children's behavior? Adults should not be afraid of teenagers. If adults in the community know a group of teens who constantly seem to be up to "no good" then I would hope that they would confront the parents. Yes, not everyone will welcome parenting advice....
