Attention Wards 1 & 5 Homeowners: Act today for special, limited time rebates to reduce flooding and green your home!
The District Department of the Environment (DDOE) is offering rebates to help homeowners in the Bloomingdale Sewershed defray the costs of retrofitting driveways, rooftops, patios, etc. with features that help absorb rainwater, such as:
· Green roofs: $15 per square foot (sq ft) rebate for new green or vegetated roof installed
· Pervious pavers: $10 per sq ft rebate, PLUS free pavers (valued at $5/sq ft) while supplies last, for impervious surface replaced with pervious pavers
· Impervious surface removal: $5 per sq ft rebate for impervious surface replaced with vegetation (garden, sod, soil/seed)
Funding and materials are limited so rebates are awarded on a first come, first served basis. Find out if your project qualifies at http://ddoe.dc.gov/bloomingdalerebates or contact Lauren Linville at lauren.linville@dc.gov.

We used this program and cannot say enough good things! We replaced our crumbling asphalt car pad with a gorgeous new one and the rebate rate covered over 30% of the costs: it made the financial difference between us being able to go forward with the project or not. And now 100s of gallons of water per year won't be going into the storm water drains. Don't know if they still have the rain garden and rain barrel installation rebates, but those are/were great too. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear about your experience, Alexandra. Do you have pictures of the project? We've enjoyed working in the Bloomingdale neighborhood to help address flooding and runoff issues there. I'll be at the Bloomingdale Beautification Day on the 18th with more information and would be happy to answer any questions.
