FOMP: ?REALLY the Final? McMillan Zoning Remand Hearing, Monday, May 1st: Just the Parties to the Case Will Speak

Dear Friend of McMillan Park,

Next Monday, May 1st, at 5pm, the Zoning Commission will hold another (and perhaps the REAL final) hearing on the remand of the McMillan case from the D.C. Court of Appeals.  Only the parties to the case will speak -- VMP and Friends of McMillan Park -- and only a few topics will be presented.

VMP will be offered time for rebuttal of expert testimony we presented on April 19th, and there are some procedural matters to take care of.  The public will not be permitted to speak, though the public is welcome to attend and watch.

If this coming meeting concludes the Zoning hearings, both sides will next submit closing documents and then the next step likely will be for Zoning to issue an order based on these hearings (date of course unknown).  Then the Mayor's Agent for Historic Preservation will hold similar 'limited scope hearings'  on the preservation aspects of the court's remand, perhaps
sometime in late June (date not yet finalized)

This coming Monday's hearing starts at 5pm at 441 4th St. NW, room 220 South.  The hearing will be broadcast live and you can watch it live here.  The hearing will also be archived for later viewing herewhere you can also see the video of the March 23rd, April 6th, and April 19th hearings.

If you're interested in the documents and exhibits for this case, you can see them all here.  Click on the blue "view full log" button in the bottom right, and that will bring you to the first page of case documents.  There are 24 pages of exhibits in the case, all in chronological order based on the filing date.  The documents submitted for this remand hearing are all on pages 23 and 24 of this list of case documents, following the documents submitted for the original hearings for the case in 2014.

Two McMillan-related articles that may be of interest:

     - One of our supporters alerted us to this lovely late 2016 article in the Atlantic about how radical Frederick Law Olmsted's ideas were in his time.  They still are, I think you'll agree!

     - The InTowner has published a timely article in its April, 2017 issue, here, based on a couple documents that are part of the exhibits in the current Zoning case. One is information about bribery allegations (exhibit 925A in the Zoning remand), the other a letter submitted by a developer for the original Zoning hearings in 2014. (Note: the article says that the developer's letter was obtained via FOIA request, but in fact that letter was submitted into the record by the developer, not the result of our many FOIA requests).

If you haven't yet, please consider signing our Change dot org petition to reopen McMillan Park to the public, here. - And don't forget that our legal fund is always eager for donations, here!

We cannot do this without your help!
