Neighbors, This past weekend the Bloomingdale Civic Association hosted its annual Clean Up Day. The BCA Beautification Committee Chair, Dennis Anderson, and the rest of the committee did an incredible job organizing this year`s event. On behalf of the BCA, I would like to extend a huge thank you to the neighbors who participated. NCMS Clean Team report for February 2011; Clean Team soon to plant Spring blooms

Spring is just around the corner and NCMS Clean Team will have the corridor looking its best! In February,

The Clean Team collected:

• 1,766 bags of rubbish, and
• removed 22 Graffiti markings.

They continued to shovel and treat our bus stops, handicap ramps & fire hydrants with ice melt where needed.

North Capitol Main Street Clean & Safe Team December 2010 report

The NCMS team collected 1,740 bags for the month - this equates to 26.1 tons of rubbish collected.

The team also treated the area with rocksalt around bus stops, handicap ramps and fire hydrants. They also shoveled as needed during the inclement weather.

Graffiti and Poster removals for the month totaled 37.

The NCMS Clean team collected 1,670 bags for the month of November, this equates to 25.05 tons of rubbish collected. They also removed 101 Graffiti & Poster markings.

The team replanted the hanging baskets with winter combinations getting us ready for Winter & the Holidays.

The team also replanted the planters and installed additional (Planters provided by NCMS) three planters with winter combinations.

funding approved for North Capitol Main Street Litter Cleanup Assistance Program through the 2011 fiscal year

FUNDING APPROVED FOR CLEAN AND SAFE PROGRAM THROUGH 2011

North Capitol Main Street is pleased to announce approval of its grant proposal submitted to the DC Department of Small & Local Business Development for continued funding to support the highly popular NCMS Litter Cleanup Assistance Program --through the 2011 fiscal year. In addition to keeping our streets clean - all those beautiful corner pots and hanging planters are the work of the Clean Team and further improvements are in the pipeline for 2011.

Residents, NCMS businesses and business patrons are all pleased with the results achieved by the Clean & Safe team. Catania Bakery owner, Nicole Tramonte, commented that the difference in the streetscape in front of her business is remarkable - "It's never been so clean! Friday and Saturday night were just disasters!!" She said because of the high pedestrian traffic on her block, the trash was so high in the past she couldn't keep up with it alone. She is thrilled with the service.

NCMS Clean Team Sentinels trash collection report for May 2010

Dear Area Residents:

As many may be already aware, North Capitol Main Street (NCMS) has diligently been working over the past 8 months to improve the physical appearance and image of our commercial business district through an aea clean streets initiative.

On an ongoing basis every Tuesday thru Sturday, The Clean Team Sentinels, with manpower furnished by Ready Willing & Working (RWW), have been collecting debris and trash articles throughout the North Capitol and First Street NW corridors from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm daily. Additionally, the clean team is involved in other activities such as setting up tree boxes, light poll baskets and graffiti removal from commercial property sorefronts.

As a part of keeping the community apprised of the progress of the clean street initiative on a monthly basis, NCMS will report out to the cmmunity at large on the progress of the program by sending a monthly Operation Clean Sweep Trash Collection Report as well as other information relevant to the program. Also, we ecourage feedback from the community regarding any concerns relevant to the pogram itself.

It is the mission of NCMS to promote economic development and business retention activities within the geater North Capitol area which include the neighborhoods of Eckington, Bloomingdale and the Truxton Crcle area of Shaw.

Here are the stats for the Month of May:

· The NCMS team collected 1,528 bags – 22. 92 tons of rubbish collected.

· The team completed a weed and mulch project in the park located at North Capitol & Florida Ave. NW.

· The team of Landscapers installed 12 additional self watering planters in designated areas within NCMS Main Street boundary

· The RWW night watering crew has been watering with Miracle Grow on a daily basis.

CLEAN & SAFE SENTINELS COMING TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESS DISTRICT !!

On Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 11:00 am, 1703 North Capitol Street, NE, North Capitol Main Street will launch the first of its kind in the North Capitol Community -- its inaugural Clean & Safe Sentinels Program. The NCMS Clean & Safe Sentinels will be responsible for keeping the business corridors that surround Bloomingdale, Eckington and East Shaw/Truxton Circle neighborhoods clean and safe for businesses, resident-customers and visitors to the area.

Services will be provided by Ready, Willing & Working (RWW), which provides work opportunities and supportive services to homeless and formerly incarcerated individuals. The program's holistic approach empowers men and women to break the cycles of homelessness, welfare dependency and criminal recidivism to achieve permanent self-sufficiency -- through gainful employment and life-skills training.

NCMS sought the services of RWW because of its excellent track record in providing maintenance, cleaning and landscaping services to Capitol Hill Business Improvement District as well as to Barracks Row Main Street.

RWW President Patty Brosmer says "With an emphasis on enjoying what we do and a philosophy that we are serving the public, we are looking forward to making a big difference for those who live, work and do business in the NCMS area."

"Once the program is up and running, we are urging residents to help NCMS make this program a complete success by sharing your comments and making suggestions on how we can improve in any area, says Pat Mitchell, President of NCMS."
