I was told by customer service personnel that we should
be notifying the police each time a package is stolen.
After having about a thousand dollars of with of clothes
and art supplies stolen over the past few years, this sounds like a good idea
to me. Please let people know, and if you have the number to call for the local
police that would be helpful.

While it may seem like overkill, I believe 911 is the recommended number for reporting a crime.
mdb is correct - if you want to file a police report, call 911.
