Ho
ho ho to all of you lazy, yet well-intentioned shopaholics, who love both (1)
inputting your credit card on the web, and (2) enjoying the wonders of the
hidden community Park
at Crispus Attucks in Bloomingdale.
Let
me ask you: Do you love the convenience of shopping online? The seemingly
infinite selection and low prices that Amazon offers you? The thrill of
awaiting whether the U(S)PS person accidentally delivered your Amazon package
to a different address (>25% likely), and then scouring the neighborhood for
your missing delivery with a flashlight? Or do you simply cherish the
anguish of your Metro ride home from work, while knowing full-well (maybe from
your MPD-sponsored Nest camera whose wifi connection, for once!, happened to
work this afternoon) that your package was actually delivered to your
front stoop this time around -- but worrying to death that a Christmas porch
pirate might get to it before you get off this overcrowded red line train and
race home?!
Then
I have a great proposal for you this season (and for all of 2020 and beyond):
Shop on http://SMILE.amazon.com and select “Crispus Attucks
Development Corporation” as your favorite charity.
If
you are unfamiliar with AmazonSmile (I was, too, until this year), it’s
simple: Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchases to the charity of your
choice, paid out of ITS OWN POCKET.
At
no cost to you. No skin off your back. Simple.
Free. For a good cause. Jeff Bezos money, going straight to
the lovely Crispus Attucks Park (whose upkeep is reliant on donations)...
So,
head on over to http://smile.amazon.com, choose Crispus Attucks
Development Corp. as the recipient 501(c)(3) charity, and... shop away,
dear digital Consumer!
PS:
If you're on a mobile device, this will not work on the Amazon
app. You must use a web browser and replace the "WWW." with
"Smile." Unfortunately, Amazon hasn't incorporated that option
into its app yet, which remains commercial-only, with all of your money going
straight to Jeffy B...

So did FOX5, although we don't see a published piece up yet.
Second, THE COURT HEARING
Judge Higashi of DC Superior Court heard arguments from four city attorneys and one Friends of McMillan Park attorney about stopping the demolition of the site.
Honorable Higashi said that she needs time to look over all the filings and arguments, but that the 2019 Court session ends today, and the 2020 session won't open again until January 6th, the day demolition was to begin.
With that the Judge asked if the Deputy Mayor's Office on Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) would ensure no demolition begins until she issues her ruling on the requested restraining order to stop demolition sometime after January 10, 2020. DMPED agreed.
Meanwhile, Park supporters are preparing filings in the associated Office of Administrative Hearings and BZA cases in the next several weeks, along with a Federal Complaint regarding the preservation covenants on site.
THIS MEANS WE WILL HAVE A DEMONSTRATION -- JANUARY 11 OR PERHAPS THE 13TH. More info to come soon!

===BE THERE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, AND BRING ONE FRIEND===
DC's Mayor is conspiring to line the pockets of corporate developers who enable the racist land use strategies pushing low-income residents out of the city. McMillan Park represents an important part of our struggle for environmental heath and economic justice.
On Piscataway land, McMillan Park and Sand Filtration Plant was built at the turn of the 19th century to cure the city of water borne illnesses. It became an historic gathering place for residents to rest and recreate together. One of the first de-facto integrated spaces in DC, kite flying contests and community-driven baseball fields were just some of the ways community members created joy in the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park neighborhoods. Adding to the historic value of this site are the still-functional sand filtration towers and 20-acre water cistern below that could produce locally sourced, chemical-free, clean water.
The Mayor's current plans would bring an additional 20,000 vehicular trips through a region of the city already disproportionately impacted by high asthma rates, especially on our vulnerabel children. As the climate changes and brings worsening air quality to cities across the world, Bowser would move us backwards by refusing to listen to community needs for health and wellness. savemcmillan.org/water
The city's plan has very little affordable units and would crush this space with more hi-rise high-density exclusive status-quo luxury 'development.' There is no metro nearby.

After years of court battles, activists are still fighting to preserve historic McMillan Park and block redevelopment as demolition looms.
The 25-acre site along North Capitol Street Northwest in D.C. houses a sand-filtration water purification plant, and was used to store water underground for the District.
”Built at the turn of the century, the 19th century, to cure the city of waterborne illnesses, like typhoid,” said Chris Otten of the Save McMillan Action Coalition, which held signs in front of D.C. Superior Court on Friday, ahead of arguments over a restraining order to stop work on the site.
Otten and neighbors are concerned about additional traffic in the Bloomingdale neighborhood due to the planned redevelopment. Demolition could begin as early as next month, he said.

Ho
ho ho to all of you lazy, yet well-intentioned shopaholics, who love both (1)
inputting your credit card on the web, and (2) enjoying the wonders of the
hidden community Park
at Crispus Attucks in Bloomingdale.
Let
me ask you: Do you love the convenience of shopping online?
