Neighbor,
Happy 4th of July! I hope you are ready for a relaxing and happy
holiday. Before heading out to the pool or firing up the grill
tomorrow, let me share a few tips for a great holiday:
- Watching Fireworks: The fireworks on
the Mall are scheduled to start around 9:15pm and there are a
lot of good places to catch the show here in Our Ward 5. Among
the great vantage points are McKinley High School in Eckington;
the sidewalks around McMillan reservoir at First Street NW and
Michigan Ave NW; the green spaces around Bertie Backus; and
Fort Lincoln Park. Also, the Armed Forces Retirement Home is having
an event starting at 4pm and ends with a view of
the fireworks.
- Firework Safety: Please be careful
if you plan to use fireworks at home and take all necessary
safety precautions. The Metropolitan Police Department has a
helpful website on firework safety. To report the
use or sale of illegal fireworks, contact the DC Fire/EMS
Department’s Fire Prevention Division at (202) 727-1600 or
(202) 727-1614.
- Sober Rides - Washington
Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) 2017 Independence Day SoberRide program
will be offered between 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 4 and 2:00
a.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2017. Check the website for more
details and how to participate. You must be 21 or older to use
the SoberRide service.
- Spray Park Hours: DC Department of
Parks and Recreation announced that spray parks in the
District will be open with longer hours, daily from 9:30am
until 8:30pm.
Have a
safe, relaxing and happy holiday.
In Service,
Kenyan
