WaPo article on DC pop-ups (Bloomingdale not mentioned)

A Bloomingdale 3-unit pop-up/pop-back

In a city filled with pop-up loathers and lovers, D.C. ponders its mini-skyscrapers

 November 28 at 7:50 PM

Inside a room of about 100 disgruntled Adams Morgan residents, Alex Dodds bravely stood up and made a confession this month to her Northwest Washington neighbors:
“I live in a pop-up,” the 30-year-old declared. “Keep your pitchforks at bay.”
Everyone at the public hearing chuckled. No one actually hoisted pitchforks at Dodds, but the majority came to vent about what they view as a fast-growing scourge in Washington neighborhoods: “pop-ups,” renovated rowhouses with additional stories that tower over adjacent homes like mini-skyscrapers.
Across the city, pop-ups appear to be increasingly generating conflicts. In one recent case, a 16th Street Heights resident said she might have to add a 23-foot smokestack on her rowhouse in order to use her fireplace, because a developer popped-up the adjacent home so that it towers over her three-foot chimney.
...
The measure would reduce maximum by-right height in their neighborhoods to 35 feet. And it would bar homes from being converted into dwellings with three or more units, an option that encourages developers to add stories.

St. Martin's Catholic Church's Father Kelley invites everyone to a Thanksgiving Day Mass, followed by a FREE Thanksgiving Day dinner

St. Martin's Church, Bloomingdale's Catholic Church since 1901, invites everyone to Thanksgiving mass at 9:00AM followed by a FREE Thanksgiving Day dinner between 11:00AM to 1:00 PM.  All are welcome to the dinner and there will be a warm weather clothing give-away for those in need.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with the serving the dinner, giving away the clothing and taking meals to those people in the community who are unable to leave their houses.  If you are interested volunteering please talk with me, Fr. Mike Kelley, after the Thanksgiving morning mass.  We are also (always) in need of more donations of clothing (especially warm sweaters and heavy coats) or food (canned or non-perishable) which can be left at the back of the church Thanksgiving morning.

St. Martin's Catholic Church serves the Bloomingdale community and is on the corner of North Capitol and T Street NW.  If you can't make the Thanksgiving festivities, then please join us for Advent starting this Sunday December 1st.

We hope everyone in Bloomingdale has a blessed holiday season.

Peace,

Fr. Mike Kelley
