cabs in bloomingdale

after never showing up when i called to request a cab, i wont be calling Diamond Cab again. I'd recommend others to not waste their time. i'm not a very experienced cab user, but i would think that cabs ought to at least show up, and dispatchers shouldn't be rude to you on the phone. rudeness always looses my business.
thankfully, just before the deluge at around 9:00 PM last night, we hailed a cab on north capitol.

When you need a cab, what company do you call?

REMAX: when realtors steal

now, its pretty irksome, not to mention illegal, when someone steals your pictures for monetary gain, but its just preposterous that they add a copyright to your own snapshot.

here is my photo:

webpage

here is my stolen photo:

a copyright on MY PICTURE!

here is the page i found it

oh. and here

now, i dont really mind my snapshots being used in a way that promotes the neighborhood, but if you're going to be making money off of that usage, please have the common decency to ask. and definitely dont claim you hold copyright.

an interesting thread about customer service

taken from the comment section at frozen tropics:
Customer service is a HUGE problem in DC, not just on the Hill (but I think it's especially bad on the Hill). I've got several friends that have travelled extensively throughout the US and the world. Each one of them tells me that by and large DC has the worst customer service of nearly any city they've spent much time in.

There is a thread
over at frozen tropics about the improperly named "Clothing Cafe", which isnt a cafe at all. Whats interesting is the talk of customer service in DC.

I certainly have also noticed the poor service in DC. As a business owner myself, i take great pains to ensure the happiness and satisfaction of my clients. As a former waiter, barista, cook and bus boy i have worked in places that demanded excellent customer service. I never thought it was hard to deliver. Jump over to Baltimore and you get treated excellently, even at crappy places. DC? not so much.

I certainly don't go back to places where i was treated poorly. Except for the Argonaut, cuz only one waitress was bad and i'll just sit at the bar if she's working. everyone else there rocks.

Happily, i've had outstanding service at bloomingdales own Big Bear Cafe.

broken city

an article about broken fire hydrants

A stepped-up inspection of D.C. fire hydrants is finding that nearly 10 percent don't work, fire union officials said yesterday

10%? how is that remotely acceptable?

even Bloomingdale gets a mention

In the Bloomingdale neighborhood, at Flagler Place and V Street NW, a lime-green hydrant had a collar yesterday that read "Maintenance Required," to the dismay of Maxine Sumner-Clark, who lives a half-block away. She said several vacant homes in the area have caught fire in recent years, and there is a construction site across from the hydrant -- even more reason, she said, to have a fully functioning fire hydrant on the corner.

kanlaya

there is a thai restaurant that i have been to a lot in chinatown, Kanlaya.

Despite the fact they they deliver, and that my house is 5 minutes from them (4 minutes by mapquest) they won't deliver to me.

Sad. very sad. it would have been nice if they told us that when we called to order, instead of calling back when the delivery should have arrived.
