Good Afternoon,

We wanted to provide an update on our work to increase capacity to a feeder and improve reliability in Bloomingdale. In October, crews began excavating an alley between W St., Adams St., North Capitol St., and 1st St., NW. in order to enlarge a manhole and install new conduit. Following the conduit work, crews installed new cables. The final step is to install new transformers and switch customers from the old cable to the new cable. In order to safely complete this work, a scheduled outage is required, which is set for Tuesday, May 13, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. We expect to restore service to many customers throughout the day, with the remaining customers being restored no later than 7 p.m. The rain date for this work is Wednesday, May 14.

In order to minimize the number and duration of scheduled outages, we will have several crews working in the alley on May 13. With the size of the operation, we ask that customers not use the alley while our crews are working. In addition, for individuals who utilize their driveway in the alley, we ask that they move their vehicles by 8 a.m. The alley will be re-opened at the conclusion of the project around 7 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause. Please know we are utilizing the maximum number of crews possible in attempt to reduce the duration of the work.

Construction is scheduled for Tuesday and should not impact trash and recycling collection on Wednesday. However, if we have to utilize the Wednesday rain date, we will ask the Department of Public Works to schedule this alley for collection at the beginning of the day, prior to 8 a.m.   We did also want to mention that crews will need to use a staging area on the street and will be placing Emergency No Parking signs up at least 72 hours in advance.

We plan to notify customers of the work with a door hanger and letter by May 6. In addition, we will remind customers via outbound call on Friday, May 9 and Monday, May 12.

Thank you for your patience as we work through these necessary improvements. If you have any questions about this work, please let us know and we will be glad to provide additional information.

Best,
