Whole Foods.

I saw this link on the truxton circle community website.
It lists the criteria whole foods needs to set up shop somewhere.

If you have a retail location you think would make a good site for Whole Foods Market, Inc., please review the following guidelines carefully for consideration:

* 200,000 people or more in a 20 minute drive time
* 40,000–75,000 Square Feet
* Large number of college-educated residents
* Abundant parking available for our exclusive use
* Stand alone preferred, would consider complementary
* Easy access from roadways, lighted intersection
* Excellent visibility, directly off of the street
* Must be located in a high traffic area (foot and/or vehicle)

Anyone else think that NoMa is perfect? jus sayin.

It's time to take a good look at the air space over the railroad tracks (Between Florida Avenue, New York Avenue and First Street NE). You can build an entire city over that area that one day will be the gateway from the north.

the empty lot at florida ave and north cap is owned by Joe Mamo. He has vision of building a large apartment building there. underground parking and some retail space. Zoning variance is needed for what he wants. there may be contaminated soil. i think the lot is too small for a WF.

about the tracks- i think its a great idea. the air rights above the tracks just north of union station have recently been sold, no?

i didnt read the whole post article about it.

The criteria for cities is a little different.

And note that the air rights to the railroad tracks are owned by Akridge. There's a website somewhere with their conceptual plan. I think they still call it Burnham Place.

Re: groceries, don't always think big. Cities can have great groceries that aren't 60,000 s.f.
