taxihood.

Whats the state of hailing a taxi in the area these days?
Is it possible?
has anyone actually caught one?

let me know if you would.

I saw someone hail one today on 17th and S. Does that count? It's usually easy to call one in bloomingdale since the diamond cab taxi base is on 9th and R.I.

i never get reliable radio cab service even from diamond cab during friday and saturday evenings. a capital cab driver tells me they are working on an improved metering and dispatch system that may help this.

usually i can hail one pretty quickly on RI Avenue as long as I"m willing to risk the very real chance of being mugged.

anonymous: what time of day are you hailing cabs on RI ave? Is your concern for gettting mugged is all day or just at night?

PS. Your right that diamond cab can be hit or miss. just reading your post reminded me of a few bad diamond cab experiences (not answering their phone on peak hours; rude drivers, etc.). I'll try capitol cab next time.

mugging can happen anytime but mostly scary at night. i stay on the street (on the street side of the row of parked cars) and don't hesitate to keep moving if necessary. i have never had a problem however (although I occasionally catch gypsy (illegal) cabs which are often quite interesting and sometimes a bit scary).

Hi! I'm new on the blog (I live on R between N. Cap and First) and I can easily hail a cab in the mornings on N. Cap if I'm running late, but that's about it for me!
