HISTORIC DUNBAR SHAW WALK
Saturday, October 27, 2012

Did you know that the Dunbar Shaw community is, adjacent to the neighborhood and home of famous African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar; activist, minister, and former DC Shadow Senator Jesse Jackson; former DC mayor Walter Washington; and many other prominent and history-making African-Americans.  Did you know that our community is the center of population of the District of Columbia?
    
Come join ANC Commissioner Bradley Thomas and local historian Jennifer Ragins on a walking tour to get to know this neighborhood`s rich history.

The Dunbar Shaw community is a thriving residential Old City neighborhood located in the northwest quadrant of Ward 5. It is part of the historic Shaw School Urban Renewal Area, named after General Robert Shaw who led African American troops in the Civil War, and lies within L`Enfant`s planned City of Washington.
