Bloomingdale Neighbors,
We want to keep you abreast of development with the First Street Tunnel.
First Street Closure
DC Water’s First Street Tunnel team will be closing First Street, NW this week, a bit earlier than the previously stated September 15th date.  If all goes according to plan, DC Water’s construction contractor, Skanska Jay Dee, may begin closures Wednesday afternoon.   We are conducting outreach through the FST Tunnel Forum, FST HotlineANCDC Water website, and neighborhood blogs.  Also,  DC Water will issue a Traffic Advisory to reflect this change.
Tree Pruning
We began selective tree pruning in the neighborhood yesterday and will continue today as we work to provide adequate clearance and visibility of streets, sidewalks, public roadways, and driveways and to promote public safety.  Pruning will also help to maintain the health, beauty, and vigor of the District’s tree canopy.  You may have seen No Parking signs recently on First Street, NW, which indicate “Construction Staging Area”.  These No Parking signs are temporary during the tree pruning effort and will be removed as soon as we complete this work.
Thank you so much for your cooperation as we work to build the First Street Tunnel, part of DC Water’s Clean Rivers Project, an initiative to prevent flooding in Bloomingdale and to improve the quality of the waterways surrounding the District of Columbia.
Please feel free to contact us at the 24/7 Hotline 1-844-FST-INFO (1-844-378-4636) should you have any questions.
