Yep, we'll have this many strawberries on Sunday

Hi BFM Fans!

We are back for our 11th season starting this Sunday.  Join us!

Garner, our Northern Neck Virginia producer, has lots of Sweet Charlie strawberries.  Hundreds of quarts that would love to be bathed in Keswick yogurt or sliced over little Wild Thing's Salad or baked into Strawberry shortcake...

Lots of asparagus, both green and purple at  Garner and Truck Patch.

MUSIC This Week: New to BFM! Carol Anne Bosco, cellist and singer.

Bike House:  Kara and her team are back from 11-1 to help you get your stead into perfect condition for Spring rides.

So, what's in the stands?  Oh, Strawberries, Asparagus, Carrots, baby beets, potatoes, baby Japanese turnips, parsnips, shallots, onions, spring onions, rutabagas, radishes, lettuce mixes, Napa Cabbage, bok choi, pak choi, broccoli rabe, lettuces, kohlrabi, arugula, spinach, dinosaur kale and many other greens.

I think Garner will have squash blossoms as well.  First of the season.

Broccoli rabe is one of my favorite italian vegetables -- a slightly bitter member of the Broccoli and turnip family.  It loves a quick dip in boiling water to gentle it and then a saute in olive oil with sliced garlic and hot pepper and a hearty sprinkling of grated cheese.

Gardeners: Get your herbs starts at Garner and Mt View: parsley, basil, mint, tarragon, rosemary, oregano, cilantro, thyme, lavender, sage, hot peppers, tomatoes and other vegetables...

Home made pastas and new sauces from Cucina al Volo; Keswick cheeses, cow and goat have added many new varieties., Panorama pastries and breads, Whisked pies and quiches and those addictive cookies, Number 1 Sons pickles, kimchi and krauts.  I have become quite a fan of the various daikon pickles.  My husband is addicted to the Cider Masala beets.

·                 SPECIALS:
·                 *Whisked is giving away a tote bag with every purchase (while supplies last)
·                 *Whisked Market Exclusive: Flavor of Spring Pie: Strawberry and Rhubarb.

Focus on a Baker this week:  Whisked! Jenna says:  "The farmers market season is upon us. Finally! That means breezy spring days, fresh produce, and handcrafted pies, cookies, and quiches from the best bakery in DC. (Psst... that's us! We were voted Best Bakery in Washington City Paper's Best of DC Poll!)"

"To properly celebrate, we will be giving away a free Whisked! tote bag with every purchase. The totes fit our large quiches and pies perfectly! We are also baking Strawberry Rhubarb pie as a special for opening weekend. This spring favorite hasn't been on our menu since, well, last spring. And it's only available at the farmers markets!"

And: "We've got special cookie gift boxes for Mother's Day! Hand-stamped and packaged with care, our gift boxes feature 6 cookies of each of the following flavors: Chocolate Chip, Salty Oatmeal, Snickerdoodle, and Molasses Spice. Ship a box of chewy homemade cookies directly to Mom, anywhere in the US."

Whisked has a huge selection Sunday.  Besides the Strawberry Rhubarb, there will be Rhubarb, Apple Rhubarb, Back and White Chess, Dutch Almond Apple, Bourbon Pecan, Sea Salt Chocolate Chess, Salted Caramel Apple pies.  The Quiches are the spring faves: Mint Pea and Goat Cheese, Spring Greens & Feta, Asparagus and Swiss and there is a hearty Sausage Mozzarella & Chives.  Taste ALL the cookies: Choco Chip, Salty Oatmeal, Hazelnut Swirl, Pretzel Cowboy, Snickerdoodle, Molasses Spice, Flourless Mexican Chocolate and the Vegan Oaotmeal Chocolate Chip.

KESWICK's cows just never slowed down producing milk this winter because the grass never stopped growing.. I am not sure if that is why the Vermeer is so very creamy and tasty, but it is.  If somehow you have never tasted the yogurt, try it this week.  Wonderful with strawberries and mint.  The one year aged Calverly is a nutty Northern Italian style grating cheese that would go well with Broccoli Raab.

LITTLE WILD THINGS  is back with a beautiful selection of mixed salad greens with edible flowers, pea & sun shoots, radishes and other microgreens. The edible flowers include violas, cilantro flowers, roses, dianthus and calendula.  They will be with us every week now.

Truck Patch stand heaps greens upon greens and the coolers are filled with pastured pork.

See you Sunday

Robin, Ted, Ted and Steve
