Hi Scott,

I hope all is well with you. As many B-dale folks may know, the Bloomingdale Toddler Soccer League fall season kicked off last weekend!

For those unaware: The league, started by Neela Rathinasamy, is in its 5th year and 9th season. It's not a soccer league in the traditional sense since there aren't set teams or competition. It instead centers on age-appropriate activities for kids 18 mos through 4 years old that will start to build the foundation for soccer skills, including peer interaction, listening to directions, and familiarity with a soccer ball. There is no fee to participate (other than bringing a soccer ball) and it is entirely volunteer-led by parents in the league. We meet up Saturdays mornings in Crispus Attucks Park in the fall and the spring. More than 150 little ones signed up for the 2017 seasons!

The goals of the league are:

1. To build additional social-emotional growth opportunities for Bloomingdale youngsters by encouraging fun with parents and peers in semi-organized outdoor physical activity.

2. To spark some budding love for one of the most accessible and popular sports in the world.

3.  To create a convenient and low-cost group activity within our community.

4.  To further strengthen the Bloomingdale family community.

We've had league t-shirts for a few years now, featuring a different DC-appropriate animal each year, which are made possible by the generous sponsorship of neighborhood businesses. Our shirts this year are sponsored by Bacio, Big Bear, Boundary Stone, El Camino, The Pub & The People, The Red Hen, Shaw's Tavern, and Window's Cafe! On behalf of Bloomingdale Toddler Soccer, I'd like to extend a big thanks to our t-shirt sponsors - we are very grateful for their support!! Many of our sponsors have contributed for several years. While the shirts are free to soccer league participants, parents are encouraged to make donations, which all go to Crispus Attucks Park.

If other businesses are interested in sponsoring Bloomingdale's Toddler Soccer League (and our beloved Crispus Attucks!) next year, they can contact Amy at amyzcroke@gmail.com.
