Here's a long overdue McMillan Defenders update from the Save
McMillan Action Coalition as launched by DC for Reasonable Development!
We are coming up on a year from the unprecedented strike down of
the Zoning Commission decision to approve Vision McMillan Partners Monstrosity
at our park >> http://www.savemcmillan.org/ legal
Over the spring and summer of 2017 the die-hard defenders went
back to the Zoning Commission to defend again as the Mayor and Council-member
McDuffie try to push the monstrosity through without any changes. The
city is relying on the $500/hour wordsmithing of Holland & Knight (your tax
dollars are paying for these lawyers) to get them through. Now we wait
for the written decisions.
Suffice to say, we will be going back to Court again, and we will
win again. But, the real question is the political forces at play and our
ground game, where is it? The Save McMillan Action Coalition wants to
hire an organizer to knock on doors and push for ethics in this election
season. Will you help?
Here's how:
1) Advertise and come to the McMillan Park walking tour with the
Friends of McMillan Park, this weekend (http://friendsofmcmillan.org/ ). McMillan Park History Walking Tour
– Sat, 2 Dec 2017, 9am (rain: 3 Dec) – Last Tour of 2017! Please register for
the Park History Tour by sending an email to: restoremcmillan@gmail.com
or by calling Kirby at 202-213-2690. We are accepting up to 30 people
for this tour to ensure that all who join can hear and fully participate, so we
will accept the first 30 registrations and we greatly appreciate a donation of
$20 in advance ($25 on the day of the event) to benefit Friends of McMillan
Park’s efforts to save this registered national historic landmark.
2) Bring your checkbook, cash, and love and come to the Save
McMillan Action Coalition holiday gathering, the evening of December 20th at the
famous home of James Fournier, Esquire. Put it on your calendar,
please. More details to come! Email if you are interested in
pledging $5, $10, $51, $102, $501, $1001: smac.dc@gmail.com
Thank you for all your support, interest in this amazing site, and
love for our McMillan Park.
Please like us and tell others to do the same.
Thanks,
Chris Otten, co-facilitator
