Bloomingdale Farmers Market: Welcome our new producers, Shenandoah Seasonal

Subject: Welcome our new producers, Shenandoah Seasonal - Sunday
Date: June 12, 2020 at 10:22:36 AM EDT

Hi BFM fans

Come meet our wonderful new producers: Ali and Dan Haney of Shenandoah Seasonal.  They were chosen by Shawna and Attila to replace Mountain View at the market.  (Attila and Shawna and the kids were supposed to be traveling the world right now but their departure has been delayed by the virus) Ali and Dan have been farming for 9 years - before that they were social workers.... in Cambodia.  You can see them and the farm and some pretty vegetables on our fb and twitter and instagram.  (Hey, have you joined our Instagram yet?)

You can order online here or shop at their stand in the market.  Read about them (and baby Leena) and their fascinating journey into farming back in Virginia here.

"Shenandoah Seasonal uses sustainable and organic practices. Our systems for raising vegetables includes an intensive, raised bed method. This allows us to grow high yields on only 2 acres of land. We do not use chemicals but instead fertilize our soil using cover crops and by introducing new organic matter to the beds. While our methods are intensive, we believe they provide the highest-quality and most healthy produce possible."

Please welcome them warmly.  (specially if it rains on Sunday.)

Breaking NEWS: Yay. Number 1 Sons will be STAFFED again at their stand where you will be able to buy their greatest hits in prepacks so that transactions go quickly ( Haley is back). And they have Supersours and Half Sours and lots of other cucumber pickles (be still my New Yorker's heart)

Reminder: Cucina Al Volo is back on Sundays and Chef Matteo is bringing pretty much everything:  If you ever wanted an Italian chef to cook for you, personally, Matteo's stand is the answer.  I call it "Fast Food the way it should be".  Seriously, it goes from your freezer to  your table in less than 10 minutes.  And it is the same pasta and sauces he makes for their restaurants.

Here is the list:
  • Burrata ravioli
  • Spinach and ricotta ravioli
  • Beef brisket and Parmesan ravioli
  • Roasted butternut squash and mascarpone ravioli
  • Egg fettuccine
  • Smoked paprika pappardelle
  • Green kale fusilli
  • Squid ink chitarra
  • Egg strozzapreti
  • Hand made potato gnocchi
  • Eggplant Parmesan (Take and Bake)
  • Beef lasagna (Take and Bake)
SAUCES:
  • Pesto
  • Lamb ragu
  • Bolognese sauce
  • Cherry tomato sauce
  • Wild mushroom sauce
  • Eggplant sauce
  •
Also, to go with the pastas, Garner will have those sweet first of the season squash which are perfect peeled in strips and served with your fettucini, shelled peas, cherry and heirloom tomatoes, fresh cut basil too. Reid will have a lot of Pennsylvania strawberries for the next three weeks.  Whisked cookies and pies are award winners every year.
