HPRB: accepts the consent calendar items of 1626-1634-1644 North Capitol St NW & 41 Quincy Pl NW; votes down 2228 1st St NW

At today's HPRB meeting, the HPRB took the following actions in the Bloomingdale Historic District:

The HPRB voted to accept the two consent calendar items:

BLOOMINGDALE HISTORIC DISTRICT
B.           1626-1634-1644 North Capitol Street NW, HPA 20-288, subdivision/combine three lots
C.           41 Quincy Place NW, HPA 20-348, concept/addition and roof deck
And the HPRB voted to reject the proposal for 2228 1st St NW:

BLOOMINGDALE HISTORIC DISTRICT
3.   11:15-12:00   2228 1st Street NW, HPA 20-343, concept/front window well

The property owner was not present, but rather the architect.

It was noted that there were no letters in the HPO file from the local ANC, either in support or opposition.
The architect did not know if the abutting neighbor was notified.  Brendan Meyer, however, suggested that the scope of the proposed project was not large, it was not unusual to see much community outreach.
Brendan Meyer invited the architect to continue working with HPO guidance.

Next up in the Bloomingdale Historic District - on Thursday, 07-09-2020:

Please Note:  The following staff reports for the July 9 session will post after June 25.

As for the owner not being present, they never said they need to be. The placard was posted at the home and the no one responded because no neighbor wanted to protest it. The ANC doesn't have to be informed for a window well. They refused a window well. This is what happens with a HPRB that comes into a neighborhood. Wait till someone of you decide to do something with your house and have to go through this process, if you get frustrated and think of selling, remember that was the whole point of the HPRB in the first place. To move in people of like mindedness and other things they find desirable. Bloomingdale got hoodwinked into being historical and now you can't get a window well.
