Councilmember McDuffie will Co-Chair the committee on Equity, Disparity Reduction and Vulnerable Populations. The Advisory Group will deliver an initial ReOpenDC report  to the Mayor the week of May 11. Residents and businesses are encouraged to provide feedback and will be able to participate in a virtual town hall and survey. DC Awards $25 Million to Hospitals for COVID-19 Medical Surge Today, the Department of Health Care Finance announced it has awarded $25 million in grants to 10 hospitals to support and prepare for the District’s medical surge in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency. Eligible hospitals applied to receive funding based on the number of beds the hospital is able to provide to address the anticipated surge. Each hospital received an award based on this allocation and funding will be distributed to hospitals on May 1, 2020. The funding, which was included in the recently passed COVID-19 Response Supplemental Emergency Amendment Act of 2020, can be used for COVID-19-related supplies and equipment, personnel, and the construction and operation of temporary structures for testing and treatment. Washington Sports Club Will Stop Charging Members During COVID-19 Closures Attorney General Karl Racine announced today that the parent company of Washington Sports Club, will stop charging members while gyms are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The gym chain will also credit members for time the gyms were closed and offer free electronic membership cancellations through April 30. This policy change follows a letter from AG Racine and other state Attorneys General demanding the company stop charging customers for memberships they cannot use. Small Business Spotlight: GoFundMe for Employees Rhode Island Avenue Main Street and Bladensburg Road Main Street provided a list today of businesses around those areas and Brookland that have GoFundMe drives established for their staffs.
