Subject: Thief pulling on car and home doors

Good morning!  While it goes without saying, please lock your car and home doors.  At 9:25AM on Saturday (4/09/2016), I observed a young black male pulling on car doors and walking down into the basement of homes on the 2000 block of 1st Street NW.  A quick description is that he was wearing dark pants, baseball hat, yellow under clothing, black jacket with a hood that was pulled over the hat.  I witnessed him successfully open and gain entry into the front passenger door of one of the construction trucks at the "dig" and rummage through it.  I immediately called 911, but unfortunately the Police did not respond at all.  The thief was able to take his time in the truck, walk out, make a phone call and enter the truck again.  After taking what he wanted he proceeded North on 1st at the intersection of V St.  I came out after he left and alerted the construction workers who verified that several items were taken from the truck.  In turn a few other cars were rummaged through on the block.   Apparently after speaking to few people who were distributing flyers at the same time, they had observed the guy also and that he was apparently working with a team.  He had someone in a older gold colored car shadowing him half a block away and hence the phone call that he was making.   #wishingforabaitcar

Ah, what he did at my house was knock on my basement door, as if he had real business. When I didn't answer as we don't open that door and I only happened to be in basement doing laundry, he left. He's very clever and stays hidden and moves fast among the cars.
