New Year, New Beginnings

“Longtime Grower of Things” Becomes New Executive Director of Common Good City Farm
By Jill Schwartz

Samantha Wetzel’s roots to gardening run deep.

As a child, she loved helping her mother pick vegetables from their backyard garden in northern Virginia. She was fascinated with watching things grow.

Samantha brought that passion to her own backyard when she grew up, creating gardens at the various places where she lived.
And she brought it to Honduras, where she and her husband were Peace Corps volunteers. Under the hot Latin American sun, she grew peppers, garlic, beans and more. Under wetter and colder conditions, she later worked on an organic farm in Ireland.

She now manages a 400-plus-square-foot fruit and vegetable garden she planted at her current home in the Northeast Washington, DC community of Langdon Park.

Check out our registration page for more information or contact info@commongoodcityfarm.org.  (And help us spread the word to teachers you know!)

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Want to get involved on the farm?   In 2018, we are expanding our City Farmer program to include all aspects of our work (farming, youth education, farm stand, and more)! We are looking for volunteers who can make a regular weekly commitment. The first opportunities will start in March this year, so keep an eye on your email, we'll be sending the full details and sign up information soon!
