Hi BFM fans!
New this week:
COOL News: Another "polar blast" is coming our way next week to cut the temps to the low 80s and banish any humidity. Stock up on pies and quiches and turn on your ovens again so you can roast something delicious in case you want to test your oven before September.
- Lima Beans at Garner (Treat them like Edamame – toss in boiling water and sprinkle with salt --and snack away).
- Yellow cucumber pickles at Number 1 Sons. With horseradish and spices.

At the Stands:
GARNER: Corn, yellow and red and hot peppers, blackberries, 20 varieties of field tomatoes,, purslane, Okra, chard, arugula, beets, sungold tomatoes, 8 diferent summer squashes, Thai, Italian and Japanese eggplant. Melons (sun, cantaloupes and watermelons in red or yellow). Mint, dill and parsley.
IVY BRAND: Nick says: we have cukes, squash, green beans, onions, scallions, garlic, carrots, baby head lettuce, kale, colored peppers, hot peppers, potatoes, and eggplant. TONS of cherry tomatoes this week. And the colorful peppers look spectacular. Great heirloom tomatoes too. Certified organic.
KESWICK: Now the home of more than 20 Jersey cow and mixed milk cheeses. There are 6 new mixed milk cheeses this year because they have added goats to the farm. The Caporella has the creaminess of a burrata with a tang. Perfect for the 40+ varieties of tomatoes we have at the market. Pimento is a great addition to any hamburger, the yogurt is yearning to be mixing it up with both fruit salads and savories. Cucumber soup, Indian raita, Greek tsatsiki, or just mixed with sautéed greens where it makes a simple, tangy sauce.
NUMBER ONE SONS: The yellow cucumber pickles arrive this weekend. But in a very small batch. These cukes are Bigg Riggs in WV. Done with horseradish and a great mix of spices. Similar to the 2013 Blonde Marys.. Ginger Giardinera is still sticking around. Made with cauliflower, celery and carrot medley. Based on an Italian vinegar or oil pickle, Yi Wah kicked up the heat with jalapeño and curry.
PANORAMA: Croissants. Baguettes and lots of French breakfast pastries and breads. Sourdoughs, rustiques, country loaves, whole wheat walnut, pumpernickel raisin, Loaves for sandwiches and boules.
WHISKED: Jenna’s customers want rhubarb, cherry and blueberry pies and she is making sure you have your favorites this week. Her savories are the classics: Italian Zucchini Quiche and Bacon Cheddar and Onions.
