Citing traffic and density concerns, D.C. zoning panel defers action on McMillan
The D.C. Zoning Commission on Monday delayed action on the proposed overhaul of the McMillan Sand Filtration Plant, citing continuing concerns about density and traffic and the desire to "make sure it's right."
While the controversial, 2.1 million-square-foot plan devised by Vision McMillan Partners is a good bet for eventual approval, issues with density, traffic, loading and the community benefits agreement led the commission to defer its decision on the planned-unit development application until Sept. 29.
VMP – a partnership of the Trammell Crow Co., EYA and Jair Lynch Development Partners – was selected seven years ago by the District to transform the shuttered, 25-acre McMillan site into a mixed-use destination in Ward 5. It's been a difficult climb for the project's backers.
