I, too, am looking for a gym. A friend of mine took me to VIDA at Gallery Place last night. I was a fan. The 80 bus goes there from North Capital (stop near my house on Randolph) or a quick bike ride down Rhode Island. The gym is across from Rosa Mexicano (7th & G I think).
I recently had a back and forth with another Bloomingdale resident who asked me about gym membership and ended up joining VIDA. I vote for VIDA, it's pretty fabulous and they are also opening two new locations (one in Logan in Sept). In full disclosure, I do teach a class there so I'm probably a bit biased! :o) But it really is a nice gym. It's a 35 min walk/10 minute bike ride from my place in Eckington.
I go to the gym at my work. It only costs $11 for every two weeks. There is no way I would pay near $100 to get sweaty at VIDA. Especially the way the economy is spiraling downward right now.
Let's not forget Balance Gym, which is located at 2200 California Avenue NW -- a local gym owned and operated by Bloomingdale resident Mark Crick! Visit www.balancegym.com. Be sure to check reviews for * any * gym that you are considering at yelp.com.
Yeah, I used to be a member of WSC in Chinatown but I got tired of that real quick. Living in our neck of the woods, Eckington, can be hard for those of us who want to workout. So, now I joined the gym at my work, which is way cheaper and more convenient than a commercial gym. Now I can workout during lunch and get home early.
http://primal-fitness.com/ 219 M st. NW stop by and talk to mark or jesse - they'll lay out the whole "cross-fit" phoilosophy and probably invite you to try out a class.

I go to Bodysmiths By Logan Circle, but will probably join that Results when it opens!
