The named alleys in the city are slowly gaining recognition. Lack of awareness of their locations has caused problems as recently as last night when MPD were unable to find Naylor Court to intervene promptly when a motorcycle theft in progress was reported by one of the residents.

The DC Historic Alley Buildings Survey has just been completed by HPO and the link to this report is below. This is work that was championed by Kim Williams in the HPO and she should be congratulated.

This is the first stage of increasing alley recognition throughout the city. (Kim.Williams@dc.gov ) Hopefully the new interim head of the OP will be supportive of the next phases that would include developing a DC Alley Plan/Vision for the future.

As the population of people who actually live in the alleys increases, doubtless there will be increased pressure to maintain the alleys and protect their inhabitants.
