COMMUNITY DAY

SATURDAY APRIL 26, 10 A.M.

HARRY THOMAS SR. RECREATION CENTER, 1743 LINCOLN RD. NE

Hello, fellow member of the community! We have an invitation for you.

My name is Dr. Joann Perkins, and I run the World Missions EXTENSION Center. We’re a community-based nonprofit organization, and for the past 30 years, our mission has been to provide educational training services that positively impact the lives of children and families living in inner-city neighborhoods.

On Saturday, April 26, we are hosting an event called Community Day and we would like to invite you to join! It will be held at the Harry Thomas Rec Center and will start at 10:00 am. Our goal is to encourage family, friends, and neighbors to come together for a day of fun for everyone, one that includes good music, dancing, games, and other fun activities that make us community.

We will be providing Scholarship applications for senior high school students who are graduating this year. Last year, with help from multiple community groups and Assistant Chief Diane Groomes and the Metropolitan Police Department, we awarded scholarships to 12 students who are presently matriculating in colleges throughout the United States - the largest number of scholarships we’ve given so far.

We would also like to announce a new development. World Missions’ headquarters at 1720 1st St. NW is in the process of converting to a day-care center and consignment
shop, one that takes its inspiration from other community-minded nonprofit locations like Martha’s Table and Books for America. Stay tuned.

In closing, don’t forget to make plans to be with us at the April 26 Community Day Rally, and thanks in advance for helping us get the word out to all of the people that you know.

I hope to see you there!

Dr. Joann Perkins
President and CEO
