"My dog came down with a communicable virus"

See this 05-12-2015 message from a Bloomingdale dog owner:

Thought you might want to put this on the blog, just in case... My dog came down with a communicable virus (slight possibility that it's K9 Influenza) and he'd had a drink from the water bowl outside of Aroi Thai on Friday evening. Symptoms were fever with shaking (chills), lethargy, and a wet cough with creamy gray discharge. Local dog owners might want to be aware in case they see any symptoms so they can get to the vet asap

Very sorry about your dog. Thank you for alerting the neighborhood.

It is never advisable to let dogs drink from public water bowls. Esp. in this area, dogs can get Leptospirosis from water contaminated by rat output. Lepto vaccines cover only 3 of 4 Lepto strains. A dog may get Lepto even if the strain is covered by the vaccine and could die within hours even if taken to a vet. The biggest symptom to watch for is repeated vomiting.
