Neighbors,
Today we recognize Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s tremendous
contributions to our country and the world. While we celebrate
his life and the wisdom that he shared, we must also look to his
words and actions to remind us of what makes our nation great.
With issues of race and injustice on many of our minds as a
result of what we are seeing nationally, it is especially
important that we remember Dr. King's work to promote equality,
social justice, and respect for human dignity.
We must always remember that there is more that unites us than
divides us. Here in the District of Columbia, we have many
reasons for optimism. The future is bright, we are vibrant, and
we are strong. Our diversity and empathy for others are what help
us advance the legacy of Dr. King in our own lives and in the
communities we serve.
On Martin Luther King Day, I encourage you to reflect on how we
can do more for each other. Each day, we must think of ways
we can live up to Dr. King’s legacy of selflessness and justice.
In Service,
Kenyan
