Hi BFM fans:

We are back !  And we have a really lively opening day for you.  The Bike House will put your bikes in great shape, The Destroyers will get you dancing, our chef Julie Castillo is all about eating Local for Less (the name of her book) and Common Good City Farm is joining us for the day.  They were regulars many years ago and we are thrilled to have them visit.

So, what will you find on Mother’s Day ?

*First of the Strawberries!
* All kinds of pies and tarts and quiches from our bakers
*Asparagus from Truck Patch and Garner
*Lots of plants to beautify your garden and up your herb game
*Amazing cheeses.  Keswick is going from strength to strength with new cheeses:  Pub Music Cotswald style, Tart Cherry Wensleydale,  Stinky Elf Taleggio, Miraflores
*Gorgeous salad greens at Mountain View, Truck Patch and Garner
*Wild Ramp Spring Kraut, kimchis, cortidos, brined beans and Indian Spiced Beets at Number 1 Sons.

Arugula, Bok Choi, Tatsoi, Mibuna, Mustard Greens, Baby Collards, Baby Kale, Head lettuce, young Spinach, Swiss Chard, Kale, Asian green mix.  Liven up the salads or the quick sauté with slices of spring onions or scallions and radishes.  We will also have golden and red beets and sweet Japanese Hakurei, broccoli, zucchini, dried Cranberry beans and Black Eye Peas , cut herbs, lots of breads, croissants, muffins and French sweets and Jenna’s cookies and 20 different cheeses, aged and fresh, pastured pork in all its forms, chicken whole and in parts and turkey.

Super plant: Watercress’ short season says Spring more than any other green and its pleasantly peppery flavor has made it a Spring tonic for thousands of years to sharpen your wits, cure baldness, toothaches, freckles and cleanse the blood. Maybe that is why they serve watercress sandwiches at high tea. It is loaded with antioxidants too.  I like it in watercress soup http://shesinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2010/02/watercress-soup-watercress-sandwiches.html

Pies: Rhubarb, Apple Rhubarb, Strawberry Lemon, Seas Salt Chocolate, Salted Caramel and Classic Apple Pie.  Asparagus and Goat Cheese Quiche, Kale, Roasted Garlic and Goat Cheese.

Gardeners:  Besides their apples, Reid will have a whole nursery of herb, pepper, tomato plants as will Mountain View and Garner.

(Coming next month:  mushrooms and pasta producers.)

See you there:
