Subject: Bryant Street Pumping Station Project - Upcoming Construction Impacts in Your Area
To: Jill McClanahan <Jill.McClanahan@dcwater.com>
Good Afternoon,
This email is to inform and to remind you of the scheduled road closure that will take place on Monday, March 11, 2013 beginning at 7:00am. This road closure is due to the Bryant Street Pumping Station Discharge Piping Replacement Project that will begin on Monday, March 11, 2013 and expected to continue until July, 2015 with a closure of Bryant Street NW from 2nd Street NW through 4th Street NW.
The following has taken place to prepare the immediate community of the road closures:
· Detour signs have been posted and will be uncovered on Monday, March 11, 2013
· Communications have been held with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to temporarily divert bus route during construction
· A Traffic Advisory alerting motorists of the temporary detour has been circulated to DDOT and local media (WTOP, Dr. Gridlock, etc.)
· Door hangers have been distributed to the surrounding residents
· Community meetings have been held with affected Councilmembers, ANCs, and Civic Associations.
· Our multi-layered outreach efforts have also included the following stakeholders:
Department of Public Works
WMATA
Howard University
Washington Metropolitan High School
As you will see in the attached Project Information Sheet, the Bryant Street Pump Station was originally constructed in 1904 and underwent a $55 million major renovation that was completed in 2006. The pipes that will now be replaced, also constructed in the early 1900s, are large transmission mains that extend outside the BSPS building along Bryant Street, NW, between 2nd and 4th Streets NW, and are critical to station operations – these pipes were not included in the major renovation. This project is a key component of DC Water’s Capital Improvement Program that replaces vital water infrastructure.
We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause and we thank you for your support and cooperation as we complete this critical work. If DC Water has not met with you, we humbly request an opportunity to brief you on project impacts and benefits.
Thank you.
