suggestion to request a signature for packages FedEx or UPS delivers to your home

See this message from a neighborhood resident: 

Can you please advise Bloomingdale residents that it would be wise and would be another less headache that when ordering packages to have the sending company request a signature when either FedEx or UPS delivers?  I purchased an item and it was stolen from my front door because a signature wasn't required thus FedEx simply left the box in my front door. Then the next morning they threw the broken and empty box back on my front door as if saying in your face.
