Hi All,

Just wanted to inform everyone that today we received tickets for parking during street sweeping times.   Although the ticket can be contested it is a huge inconvenience for all of us.  Please be mindful that tomorrow this may happen again.  If anyone has new information that supersedes the last email that was sent out could you please forward it to me.

Thank you,

2000 block of First St NW resident

Neighbors,

Many residents have voiced concern regarding street sweeping during FST construction. DPW has decided to suspend street sweeping in the construction area. Please help spread the word.

DPW Suspends Residential Street Sweeping in Bloomingdale on Certain Blocks
Due to DC Water First Street Tunnel Construction Project

(Washington, DC)  The Department of Public Works announced today that weekly mechanical sweeping of certain residential blocks in the Bloomingdale neighborhood will be suspended through the end of residential street sweeping season, October 31 while DC Water’s First Street Tunnel construction project is underway.  As a result, DPW also will not issue parking tickets to vehicles that remain parked in these blocks during posted street sweeping days.

The affected area encompasses the northern half of Bloomingdale bounded by and including the unit block of Channing Street, NW on the far north, the 2000-2400 blocks of North Capitol Street, NW on the east, the unit and 100 blocks of Rhode Island Avenue, NW on the south, the 1900-2200 blocks of 2nd Street, NW on the west, the 100 block of Bryant Street, NW on the north, and the 2400 block of First Street, NW connecting back to Channing.  Other blocks within that perimeter that will be affected include the 100 block of Thomas, the unit and 100 blocks of U, V, W, Adams, and Bryant, the 1900-2300 block of First, and the 2000 to 2200 blocks of Flagler Place.

Just got off the phone with the head of parking enforcement at DPW.  Many mea culpas from the agency; the tow truck operators apparently decided to come out without authorization and ticketed and towed themselves without benefit of a parking enforcement officer. Because of the agency's mistake, DPW will waive the tickets, but I have been asked to collect them.  So please forward me copies of any street sweeping and towing tickets you or any neighbor has received and we will get them waived.

Sorry for the hassles,

Please check your license plates on the DMV Web site in a few days and the site should show that the ticket is not on the system.  If it still shows up late in the week, let me know.

Also, for anyone getting this note, please let your neighbors know that if they get a street sweeping ticket or a towing ticket related to street sweeping, then please forward a copy of the ticket to me and Commissioner Pearl and we'll get them taken care of.

All the best,

John
