One Bloomingdale store illustrates the effects and tensions of gentrification in D.C.

Gentrification has been an increasingly hot topic of Washington region discussion for the past few years,particularly in certain neighborhoods and regions.
               
It's often spoken about on the 30,000-foot, overarching level. But the effects – and accompanying tensions – that come with gentrification become sharper when it's addressed through the prism of a single business.
                           
The Washington Post reports Jak & Co. Hairdressers, a 50-year-old business in Bloomingdale, has posted a sign on its doors, saying it is closing due to "'gentrification' and mixed emotions."
