Perhaps of interest to Bloomingdale?
Back in the 1970s, President
Jimmy Carter declared June African American Music Appreciation month. I want to
share a couple of events happening in DC.
1) Wednesday, Jun 3, I will
be in conversation with the author Ta-Nehisi Coates as part of the virtual
launch of the Go-Go Museum and Cafe in Anacostia. RSVP at this link:
2) Sunday, Jun 21, the cable
channel TV One will do a national release of its documentary on go-go,
"The Beat Don't Stop". TV One (and Radio One) Founder and owner
Cathy Hughes has some poignant comments in the trailer about DC's history of
slavery and how it is tied to the music.
