Single Lane Conditions Planned for the Westbound 100 Block of Rhode Island Avenue NW
(Washington, D.C.) As a part of the Bloomingdale Surface Water Management Project, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the right lane in the westbound direction of the 100 Block of Rhode Island Avenue NW starting on or about June 24, 2013 for two consecutive weeks. This lane will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday , weather and construction conditions permitting. During construction hours, traffic along this stretch of westbound Rhode Island Avenue NW will be reduced to one lane and “No-Parking restrictions will be in effect in the immediate area of construction, except during rush hour.
The lane closures are needed to install catch basins and sewer pipes that will connect to the 60-inch storm sewer that was recently installed underneath the median. These additional catch basins willreduce the amount of surface water that accumulates on the roadway during heavy rainfalls.
Traffic control signs will be in place to guide travelers in the corridor through the new traffic pattern. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are urged to stay alert and use caution when traveling by the work zone.
