90 community members have already signed up to support the markets, and we need to train an additional 200 volunteers in the month of May to support farmers' markets this summer. We've added new volunteer trainings to our Training Calendar, including daytime hours and off-site locations across the city of DC to make them more convenient for you!

elp provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables to community members at DC farmers' markets. Through the city's Produce Plus Program, qualified customers are eligible to receive $10 each week to purchase fresh produce from local farmers. Farmers' Market Brigade volunteers support Produce Plus by...
  • Committing to 5 market shifts (or more!) between June and September
  • Attending a two-hour volunteer training session
  • Distributing Produce Plus checks at farmers’ markets
  • Providing excellent customer service and care to all farmers’ market customers
All volunteers, including returning Brigade members, must sign up for a 2017 training in order to volunteer at a market shift.

Want to become a Volunteer Leader?

Volunteer Leaders will lead weekly shifts at market(s) from June - September, helping to recruit and support Farmers’ Market Brigade volunteers distributing Produce Plus checks. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to take on a leadership role in their community, and is interested in learning more about Produce Plus and farmers' markets.

 Office Volunteers Needed May 3rd

As Produce Plus kicks into gear, our office staff will need help as we prepare to train hundreds of people for the 2017 season! We will be preparing print handouts, folders, binders and manuals for our Produce Plus Distributors and Volunteers. We are seeking 3-6 individuals (or an organized group!) to help stuff folders, organize binders and support general office tasks on Wednesday, May 3rd between the hours of 12pm - 7pm at our office in Dupont Circle! We welcome anyone who is able to drop by during their lunch hour, or are available after work.

Cooking Demonstration Volunteer Opportunity


We're seeking 1-2 committed volunteers who are interested in children's nutrition! The volunteer(s) will support SNAP-Ed Educators in leading cooking demonstrations with children enrolled in the ProduceRx program. They will plan to attend 6 cooking demonstration lessons between May - October from 5:30 - 7:30 PM on the last Wednesday of each month (5/31, 6/28, 7/26, 8/30, 9/27, 10/25) at the Upper Cardozo Unity Healthcare Clinic in NW DC.

If interested, please contact Ellie Fausold at ellie@dcgreens.org with your contact information, availability for the class dates listed above and other relevant information. Those who are interested should feel comfortable working with children, have an interest in nutrition and in healthy cooking. Spanish language skills are preferred but not required.
