STITCH
STITCH is a group exhibition examining the growing popularity of traditional needlework and its incorporation into diverse forms of contemporary art. Traditionally regarded as a craft or relegated to the category of "women's work," needlework—including stitching, embroidery, knitting and crochet—has increasingly become a vital element in contemporary mixed media compositions. STITCH will present surprising manifestations of needlework in combination with a range of media including painting, sculpture, and photography.

Rania's work will be on exhibit with Stephanie Booth, Orly Cogan, Suzi Fox, Kate Kretz, Pam Rogers, Erin Endicott Sheldon, and Nathan Vincent.
Opening reception is this Thursday, January 16, 6–8pm. I hope to see you there!

2014 DC Artist Fellowship Program
Rania is honored and thrilled to have been awarded a 2014 Artist Fellowship Program Grant Award from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The full list of awardees is available here.

“Awardees of these grants are great examples of artists and arts organizations whose initiatives have expanded the tremendous output of Washington’s creative economy.”  —Lionell Thomas, Executive Director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

WPA SELECT 2014
SELECT 2014 consists of a 3-week public exhibition and a ticketed auction party to support contemporary art and the local artist community. The artists invited to participate in this exhibition were selected by a group of notable curators from some of the most important institutions in our region, emerging curators, and WPA’s Board of Directors. The works represent a cross section of media and disciplines, providing a remarkable survey of contemporary artistic practice. The SELECT 2014 gala is the region’s longest running contemporary art auction gala and offers a truly unique opportunity to acquire works by emerging and established artists from the DC region and beyond.

Rania's piece, Forming [Series I], was selected by curator Jennifer Scanlan. Exhibition opening is Thursday, February 27, and Jennifer Scanlan's curator talk will take place Wednesday, March 6. SELECT 2014: WPA Art Auction Gala happens Saturday, March 22.
