Please share with neighbors the announcements below of the passing of Mr. Sylvester Burrows, father of Commissioner Wanda Foster and our Bloomingdale neighbor. Mr. Burrows was a life long Washingtonian and a well loved long time resident of the 100 block of Randolph Place, NW. He was also a member of the Bloomingdale Civic Association. Mr. Burrows and his wife could often be found "stoop sitting" on their block, in fact, they were stoop sitting the day they became the first Bloomingdale residents I met when I was deciding whether to buy my house. Mr. Burrows' presence and wisdom will be missed but his spirit will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

During this difficult time, if you have pressing neighborhood related concerns that would normally require a response from Commissioner Foster, please understand that she may require additional time to respond. SYLVESTER RANDOLPH BURROWS SR.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and He delights in his way.

(Psalm 37:23)

At 92 years of age, our faithful brother-in-Christ, Sylvester Burrows, peacefully transitioned from his earthly tabernacle to his Heavenly Home into the Divine Presence of his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Sylvester has lived a long and satisfying life as was promised in Psalm 91:16, "With long life did God satisfy him, and show him His salvation." At age 90, Sylvester was awarded in June 2012 with the Congressional Medal of Honor for the First African American U. S. Marine of Montfort Point.

Sylvester leaves to cherish their precious memories his loving wife Lynell Burrows and children. Psalm 127:3-5 reads, "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;" Please keep the Burrows family lifted in prayer
