at Big Bear Cafe - Stronghold: In Two Acts -- Saturday, 05-31-2014

At Big Bear Cafe on Saturday, 05-31-2014:

Stronghold: In Two Acts

at 7:00pm

Big Bear Cafe
R and 1st NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20001

Save the date for the opening night of our audio / photography installation and performance of this audio documentary! Proceeds from the evening will help send a local high school student to college.

Stronghold is a tiny DC neighborhood with a big name. Black residents claimed the place more than 50 years ago and created a community. As DC changes again, long-time Stronghold residents tell us why they’re fighting to preserve what they built, while new residents share with us what they're hoping to build.

The work was produced by the From Block2Block audio group--Tatyana Safronova, Désirée Bayonet, Peter Timko, Jonathan Kim, and Savanna Nilsen--with installation design assistance from Anya Fredrickson. Original music will be performed by Ramtin Arablouei.

Donations will be collected throughout the evening and will go towards the Stronghold College Fund, which was established to help a local high school student pay for college.
