We've been so busy hustling and bustling all
summer that it's hard to believe Labor Day is just around the
corner. As the season progresses, at various points the farm
was overflowing with peaches, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, and a
variety of other summer crops. Our Summer Youth Program participants
enjoyed a fantastic (although seriously hot) 6 weeks on the farm
learning about urban farming, food access, and workforce readiness
while doing a ton of healthy cooking and holding pop
up farm stands at the nearby senior citizen apartment
building. Our weekly Farm Stand has been dishing out
summer favorites to our neighbors right on the farm as well as
monthly appearances at the Bloomingdale Farmer's Market.
Meanwhile Little Farmers and LEAF kids always brighten our day
as we get to witness them discovering the food system.
Coming up, we'll be exploring what to do with the summer bounty
with canning and pickling workshops and look ahead
to back-to-school with Farm Field Trips. Read below
to see how you can join in.
See you on the farm!
