The Unified Scene Theater's First Birthday Party is Saturday, August 13th and YOU Are Invited! A Free Improv Workshop & 2 Free Shows!
About a year-and-a-half ago, Unified Scene Theater
Co-Founders Kathy Baird Westfall and Shawn Westfall were walking to a yoga
class at Yoga District when they noticed that a space that had been previously
occupied by a store-front church on 80 T Street in Bloomingdale was now for
lease. The next few months found them transforming the interior of the former
church, as well as creating an identify for the kind of unique space and
offerings they wanted to bring to DC’s improv comedy scene: a brick-and-mortar
theater that privileged the simultaneously communitarian and anarchic spirit of
improvisational comedy. The Unified Scene Theater opened its doors in August of
2015, and in that time has brought dozens of shows, classes, workshops, and
opportunities to the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington DC.
To celebrate our first anniversary, we’re opening our doors to our friends, family, neighbors — to anyone who wants to stop in. And everything is FREE: a workshop and two shows, as well as food and drink, including free pizza from our friends at Bacio Pizza!
And you’re invited. Yes, you. Just our way of thanking all of you who have been so supportive of us in our first year.
12 noon: Doors open, free food and drink, meet and greet
1 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Free Improv Workshop
Ever thought “Hey, this improv crap looks fun. But I’m not sure I could do it. Wouldn’t mind giving it a test run before I do.” Well, now’s your chance: we’re offering a free (that’s right: FREE) 2-hour improv workshop at The Unified Scene Theater on Saturday, August 13th from 1-3 p.m. Come on by. Kick the tires. You might surprise yourself.
4 p.m. – 5 p.m.: A FREE Improv Show
A FREE Improv Show featuring the talents of students who met in our improv classes at The Unified Scene Theater: TUS, a troupe formed in a class (table for one) and another troupe featuring recent graduates from our Introduction to Improv classes.
8:30 p.m - 10:00 p.m.:A FREE Improv Show Featuring Our House Troupes, Request for Protest & VI Lenin
Again, just our way of saying thank you to a neighborhood and a community that's been so supportive of us, and helped us grow over the last year.
