Emancipation Month Tour of Historic Bloomingdale

Join the DC Preservation League for a walking tour of the Bloomingdale neighborhood as part of the city’s many Emancipation Day celebrations throughout April. Bloomingdale is located in northwest DC, about two miles from the U.S. Capitol and was heavily developed by Harry Wardman. This tour, led by Sarah Shoenfeld, will explore the history of race relations in Bloomingdale through architecture and development, specifically the influence of racially restrictive deed covenants which kept much of the neighborhood off-limits to African Americans until the 1940s.
Sarah Shoenfeld is a historian and works with the Mapping Segregation project of Prologue DC. Mapping Segregation documents the historic segregation of DC’s housing, schools, playgrounds and other public spaces. We encourage attendees to explore this story map before the tour. The story map is smartphone friendly and we encourage you to continue using it during the tour, too!

The registration page is closed, so the tour must be full. But I see in another post that Washington Walks has a tour coming up soon. (The WW tour is not free, but I have been on it and I highly recommend.) That tour is the same day as the Crispus Attucks Day, so maybe it will generate some extra business for folks at the yard sale.
Love that our neighborhood is so interesting that people from across DC like to look around.
