We wanted to provide a quick update on our activities in Bloomingdale.
We continue to support DC Water's Tunnelling project. We approximate the infrastructure relocations will be completed by the end of January. Below is information about work locations:
Underground Infrastructure Relocation
- First St. and Thomas St., NW: Excavate approximately 187 feet mostly in the sidewalk
- First St. and V St., NW: Excavation centered at the intersection for infrastructure relocations
- 2225 Flagler Pl., NW: Minor excavation for equipment relocation
Feeder 14200
We also continue to work on the project to increase capacity on Feeder 14200. Crews approximate the conduit work in the alley between N. Capitol St., 1st St., W St., and Adams St., NW will be complete by the end of January. As a reminder, this project will increase the capacity of cables, install a new transformer, and expand the capacity of an additional transformer. Once the conduit work is complete, crews will start the cable and transformer installations.
Finally, we did also want to note that we are waiting for a break in the weather to convert Feeder 147 from 4 kV - 13 kV, which will increase the capacity. The final aspect of this project entails converting customers to the new feeder, which requires us to de-energize customers. This work will take place once temperatures get a bit warmer.

We wanted to provide an update on the scheduled outages related to the feeder conversion project. We have cancelled the remaining scheduled outages this week due to the weather. Residents that would have been impacted by this work will be notified directly of the cancellation by an outbound call. We will reschedule this work when weather permits.
As a reminder, this project is to convert Feeder 147 from 4 kV - 13 kV, which will increase the capacity to the area. Crews have completed the conduit work and have installed the new cable. The final aspect of this project entails converting customers to the new feeder. In order to complete this conversion, we will need to de-energize customers. Customers were notified of this outage by door hangers, which included language indicating the work would be cancelled if temperatures dropped below 32 degrees.

We have scheduled this work to occur overnight next week. Each customer will experience a service interruption over the period of one night. The outages will occur from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. Scheduled outages will occur each night from Monday through Friday night. Customers requiring a scheduled outage will be notified via a door hanger with the date and times of their service interruption. Please note that customers will only be impacted by outages on one night, not on all five nights. If customers do not receive a door hanger, they should not be impacted by this work.
I also wanted to share with you that these scheduled outages will be cancelled if the overnight weather drops below freezing. The language included on the notification is as follows: "Please note that this scheduled work will be cancelled if the weather is below 32 degrees and will be rescheduled when the temperature permits."
We will also be notifying impacted customers with an outbound call.

DC Water First Street Tunnel Project
Underground Infrastructure Relocation
- First St. and Thomas St., NW: Excavate approximately 187 feet mostly in the sidewalk (expected completion December 24, 2013)
- First St. and V St., NW: Excavation centered at the intersection for infrastructure relocations (expected completion January 2014)
- 2225 Flagler Pl., NW: Minor excavation for equipment relocation (expected completion January 2014)
- First St. from Michigan Ave. to Channing St., NW: Extend temporary over head high voltage service to supply tunneling machinery
- First St. and Michigan Ave., NW: Conduit work to transition from underground to overhead
The other underground infrastructure relocations bulleted above will be completed after DC Water finishes necessary work.
Feeder Conversion from 4kV to 13 kV
Pepco continues to replace Feeder 147 with cables that have additional capacity, converting the existing cables from 4 kV to 13 kV. Pepco has completed conduit repairs in 4 locations: 4th and Elm St., NW; on 2nd between Elm and V St., NW; and on V St. between 4th and 5th St., NW. Crews have installed the new 13 kV cable and are in the process of energizing the new feeder. This work will require interruptions in electrical service. Customers impacted by this work will be notified at least 72 hours in advance. We are in the process of scheduling the work and expect this project to be completed before the end of the year.
Feeder 14200
Crews approximate the conduit work in the alley between N. Capitol St., 1st St., W St., and Adams St., NW will be complete by the end of December. As a reminder, this project will increase the capacity of cables, install a new transformer, and expand the capacity of an additional transformer. Once the conduit work is complete, crews will start the cable and transformer installations.
Finally, we also wanted to share that we have completed the cable replacements at 4th and R St., NW and have completed the transformer replacements at Flagler and V St., NW and 1st and Adams St., NW. We have also started the cable injections on Feeder 14004 and 14001. In addition, we have completed the inspections on nearly every transformer in the Bloomingdale community. These inspections revealed a need for additional work to be completed before the summer air-conditioning season. Pepco is currently designing these projects and will be completed by late spring 2014.

Good Afternoon,
We want to share that we have rescheduled the 30 minute outages required for the transformer inspections. The work is now scheduled to occur overnight Thursday and Friday night of this week. Below is information that we shared regarding the inspections.
In order to inspect the transformers which serve the majority of the Bloomingdale community, we will need to de-energize customers for approximately 30 minutes. The transformer inspections will also begin on the evening of Thursday, November 21st and will continue on the evening of Friday, November 22nd. These scheduled outages will last for approximately 30 minutes and will occur between the hours of midnight until 6 a.m. The customers impacted by the transformer inspection will also receive a door hanger notifying them of the 30 minute outage.
It is important to note that the 30 minute outages will not occur at the same time for all customers on these feeders. The 30 minute outage will occur only on the particular transformer being inspected. Once the inspection is complete, service will be restored on that transformer and we will begin this same inspection process on the next transformer. Unfortunately, we cannot pinpoint each customers specific outage time during the midnight to 6 a.m time frame as we will be inspecting several dozen transformers as a part of the inspection process. However, we will approximate that the outages for the commercial customers, particularly the restaurants and bars located within the community, to occur between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Again, the customers impacted by the transformer inspection will receive a door hanger notifying them of the 30 minute outage that will occur between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. on the evenings of November 21st and 22nd.
