Crispus Attucks Development Corporation (CADC) Board of Directors Announces Successful Conclusion of Litigation to Protect Crispus Attucks Park

Dear Bloomingdale community,

CADC is happy to announce the conclusion of our litigation to protect Crispus Attucks Park.  All claims of who controls CADC were resolved in favor of CADC.

On Tuesday, September 3, 2013, Superior Court Judge Thomas Motley issued a final ruling in this case that began in the spring of 2012. Judge Motley affirmed that:

--The current CADC Board of Directors is the rightful controlling body of CADC
--CADC owns Crispus Attucks Park
--Marvin Rich, Diane Rich, and Lucy Fletcher are not Officers of or members of the Board of Directors of CADC
--Marvin Rich, Diane Rich, and Lucy Fletcher are forbidden from holding themselves out as representatives, Officers, or Members of CADC

Many new residents of Bloomingdale may not realize just how recently Crispus Attucks Park was anything but a park.  Just fifteen years ago, it was an eyesore: a barren lot with a burned out building, concrete pads, and an ugly chainlink fence.  Community residents spent countless hours ripping out concrete, planting trees and grass, successfully securing donations and grants to landscape the park, holding community events.  This lawsuit was an effort to protect all the hard work that so many residents had invested for the betterment of the community.

The park’s appearance today is a testament to that hard work of neighborhood volunteers.  The park is not maintained by the DC Government.  CADC, the community nonprofit organization that maintains Crispus Attucks Park, is funded only by community donations.

CADC would like to thank the Bloomingdale community for the support we have received over the last 16 months.  We remain committed to keeping Crispus Attucks Park as a welcoming green space that is a positive and unifying force for our neighborhood.

Will Gomaa, President
CADC Board of Directors
